Day 5

11-25-13

I was on social media today, checking up with what my friends had been posting throughout their weekend. While I was on Twitter I saw that  multiple people had posted pictures of Christmas lights from being at Lights of The Ozarks. After seeing those posts and pictures I decided to go see the lights for myself. Also, I was aware of the fact that I needed to wear a heavy coat and a scarf because of how cold everyone was saying that it was. It's nice to have social media as your main source of media because you find out what's going on around you very quickly. Although, I do find myself being closed off to other media because I rely on social media so much. As many good things come from social media, there are also bad things that come with it because not everything that you find out through social media comes from a creditable source. Also, often times people make things out to be something different/ better than in reality.

Day 4

11-24-13

I woke up today, checked my phone, watched some television, and went to church just like a normal Sunday morning. On the way to church, my brother and I listened to the radio. You would be surprised by how many car advertisements we heard in such a short drive to church. It's actually smart for the advertisers of tires and windshield wipers etc. to play their advertisements on the radio. This being because majority of people listen to the radio when they are in their car and thinking about their automobile.

Next, we pulled into our church to make the 9:30 a.m. service. Our church has grown to be so big that lately they have two buildings and when the first building gets filled up with people, they open up the second building. The first building actually has the preacher on stage talking to us. The second building, on the other hand, has multiple projectors where people can watch the preacher who is being recorded from the first building (a simulcast). The church wants everyone to be able to listen to the same preacher and get the same message, so to make sure of that they use a different type of medium. Getting the message across via television is smart because it keeps from crowding into one building. Although, it can be super impersonal when you plan on going to church but end up getting stuck watching church on a screen.

Day 3

11-23-13

Spending time with my family, today, I disconnected myself from media. I usually come in contact with multiple forms of media though out the day, so one day away from that isn't too bad. Especially when I spend time with friends and family that I haven't seen in a while, I try to keep my head out of my phone and be a part of life.

Today's day and age has become a "heads down" generation. In my opinion, that isn't the best thing to be stereotyped as. I agree that we have so much more in the palm of our hands then we ever have in the past, but we need to have balance. My mom has always told me to "be here now" and I couldn't agree with that statement more.

Day 2

11-22-13

My life relating to media was a struggle, today. I was on my way to Joplin, Missouri, to run errands with my mom so naturally we turned on the radio in her new car. I went to plug the auxiliary chord in my phone, wanting my mom to listen to a new song that I downloaded last night, and couldn't figure out where the auxiliary chord was. Frustrated, I came to find out that my mom's new car didn't come with an auxiliary chord at all. Instead of listening to my commercial free music we had to listen to the radio. I finally couldn't stand all the advertisements, because I'm used to listening to my own music, so I made my mom pull into Best Buy and we bought the chord that we needed.

New technology in the world makes it faster to connect and keep up with what's in the media. Although, keeping up with the new ways of viewing media can be a struggle if you don't have the new pieces of technology to adapt to the new advancements.

Day 1

11-21-13

Today I woke up and started my normal day watching television, checking my email, eating breakfast and checking social media on my phone. Within that first 30 minutes of being awake, I already had multiple contacts with media. Turning on the television this morning, I watched the news and then switched the channel over to MTV where I usually watch music videos and listen to music while I get ready for my day. Today, the music wasn't really my type so I turned to Pandora on my phone and listened to Philip Phillips radio. While I was on my phone I checked up on all my social media applications, where I quickly found out what all my friends were doing for the day. Not to mention, I found out that Miley Cyrus bleached her eyebrows just by seeing posts on Twitter. Her latest news in the media always wakes me up.

Everyone has different ways of gathering information throughout their day. After checking my news feeds on three different websites in the morning, I quickly realized that the majority of information that I gather happens to be through social media.
